Rowan wrapped a strand of her hair around his finger and watched it slide off. “You have the softest hair I’ve ever touched.” He lifted his gaze, and his eyes, deep and dark, slammed into hers. “And the most kissable mouth.”

“Do I?” Jamie asked softly, feeling that warm wave of desire and need rising inside her.

“You know you do,” Rowan told her, bending his head so that his lips hovered over hers. “Can I kiss you, James?”

“God, I wish you would!”

He laughed at her heartfelt response, and Jamie felt the little puffs of air on her lips. Sick of waiting, she lifted her mouth to touch his and sighed when they finally connected.

Lips locked and tongues tangled and teeth scraped, and she loved it all, every second of it. There was something magical about being kissed by a man who knew what he was doing, whose sole purpose was to give you pleasure. Jamie moaned deep in her throat, and Rowan deepened the kiss, turning it more demanding.

Minutes passed, and Jamie gave herself up to the moment, relishing being the object of Rowan’s passion. When he picked her up and laid her across his lap, she leaned back against his strong arm and whimpered when his hand came up to cover her breast, his thumb gliding over her nipple. She wanted him. Here, in the dark shadows on her parents’ porch while her gran and brothers played poker behind the living room window.

“Shhh,” Rowan whispered. “We’ve got to be super-quiet or else your dad will be out here with a shotgun.”

“He doesn’t own a shotgun, but he does have a high-powered bow,” she told him, grinning.

“Either way, I’d prefer not to be shot, by neither bullet nor arrow,” Rowan said quietly, his white teeth glinting in the darkness.

As much as she wanted to make love to Rowan, they couldn’t do it out here, in the open. “Take me home, Row, and let’s do this properly.”

“I don’t know if that’s a good idea,” Rowan muttered. He pulled back to look at her, his brows pulling together in a small frown. “James, I’m trying to be supportive, to—”

“But you have been,” she interrupted him. “Instead of ghosting me, you’re here, helping as we wait for the inevitable to happen.” She hesitated and then shrugged. What harm could it do? He could only say no. “I still want to have a fling with you, Rowan, and we might as well have some fun while we wait. Baby or no baby, I’m still not asking for anything more than sex.”

She honestly thought he’d turn her down again and was surprised when he nodded. “Okay.”

“You’re agreeing?” Jamie clarified.

“I was an idiot the first time I refused and regretted it the moment you walked out my door. I’ve wanted you every moment since; and since I believe that you are a strong, capable woman who knows what she’s doing and what she wants, I’m not going to say no again.”

Yay. And thank God. “Great. So are you going to take me home now?”

Rowan’s mouth kicked up into a sexy smile.
